Measure, then reduce: that is the business of Shadow, which publishes environmental management software for hospitals and clinics. The young Sophia Antipolis company closed its first funding round at the end of July, raising €2.5m, of which €1.5m in equity and €1m in bank debt, the specialist website CFNews reported.

The round brings together Caisse d'Épargne Côte d'Azur, the funds Good Only Ventures and Impact Seed Ventures, and three business angel networks: Paris Business Angels, Provence Angels and Angels Santé.

Launched in 2022 by Alexis Patissier, its chief executive, and Nicolas Vinson, who has since become an adviser, Shadow tracks energy consumption, carbon emissions and waste production for its clients. The start-up says it has around 300 clients across more than 2,000 sites, including the CHU de Nice university hospital and the hospitals in Antibes and Grasse, according to the specialist publication DSIH.

Its pitch is to fund hospitals' transition through the savings it helps them generate, at a time when healthcare facilities must cut both their spending and their environmental footprint.
