Ephyra opens hydrogen refuelling station for pleasure boats in Marseille

Located at the Anse de la Réserve harbour, the station supplies hydrogen-powered electric boats. The project is led by Chloé Zaied, who also heads La Ciotat-based boatbuilder Hynova.

On the Corniche, among the traditional pointu fishing boats and motor launches, a new kind of refuelling has appeared. Ephyra has opened at the Anse de la Réserve harbour in Marseille what it describes as the first hydrogen refuelling station installed in a marina, Le Journal des Entreprises reported. The station has been operating since July.

Founded in 2022, Ephyra offers coastal towns a complete package: boats powered by a hydrogen fuel cell and the station needed to refuel them. The principle is that hydrogen feeds a fuel cell that generates electricity for the motor, with water as the only emission.

The company attracted attention this summer during the Olympic Games. It was selected by the International Olympic Committee to transport official delegations during the sailing events held in Marseille, according to Le Méridional.

The project is run with Hynova Yachts, a hydrogen boatbuilder based in La Ciotat headed by its founder, Chloé Zaied, who is also chief executive of Ephyra.

For Ephyra, the challenge now is to move from demonstration to regular use by persuading other ports and boat operators to adopt the technology.
