Batteries on wheels: PESS Energy raises €2.2m to replace generators
The Marseille start-up founded by Rémi Pillot designs mobile electric batteries for industry and events. Crédit Agricole Alpes Provence and Région Sud Investissement are taking part in the round.
Swapping the diesel generator for a large battery that can be moved around on wheels: that is the bet made by PESS Energy. The Marseille start-up has announced a €2.2m fundraising, with investors including CAAP Création, the Crédit Agricole Alpes Provence fund, Rise Partners, Région Sud Investissement and KEDGE Entrepreneurship, according to a press release.
Founded in 2021 by Rémi Pillot, its chief executive, the company designs mobile electric generators that can be recharged from the grid or by solar panels. Its first model, the Wattman, is to be joined by a far more powerful unit, called BULK, billed as 60 times more powerful.
The target markets are industry and events, where noisy, polluting combustion-engine generators are still widely used. At the end of 2022, the company had seven employees and revenue of €800,000, according to Made in Marseille.
