Fredrik Brag, the Swede in Sophia Antipolis bringing AI to lung cancer screening
He founded Median Technologies in 2002 and this year won US and then European approval for its eyonis LCS software. The company reports a record order book.

Twenty-four years after founding Median Technologies, Fredrik Brag is seeing a long bet pay off. The eyonis LCS software, which uses artificial intelligence to help doctors detect and characterise lung nodules on CT scans, received clearance from the US FDA in February, then the European CE mark in July. The Sophia Antipolis company can now market it on both sides of the Atlantic.
The founder summed up the milestone in the group’s latest statement: “We also achieved major regulatory milestones for eyonis LCS, with FDA clearance in the United States and CE marking in Europe.” On the day of the US announcement, shares in the company, listed on Euronext Growth, soared.
Fredrik Brag is Swedish and graduated from the Stockholm School of Economics in 1985. Before Median, he ran Health Center, Inc. from 1997 to 2002. In 2002 he founded Median Technologies in the Riviera technology park. He was its chairman and chief executive until April 2019, after which he remained chief executive only.
The road has not been easy. Interviewed in 2023 by the Swedish magazine Pharma Industry, he recalled turning to Silicon Valley to find investors, for lack of sufficient backing in France.
The company first lives off another business. Its so-called iCRO activity analyses medical images from clinical trials for pharmaceutical companies. It generated all of the €23.5m in revenue in 2025, up 2.6%. At the end of June 2026 its order book reached a record €82.4m, up 15.6% year on year, with cash of €60.8m.
Eyonis LCS is meant to open a second growth driver. In December 2025 Median signed a first distribution agreement with a large US healthcare group and appointed Oran Muduroglu to head its US subsidiary. The priority is now the commercial launch in the United States.
The company has also cut costs: its headcount fell from 259 employees at the end of 2023 to 227 at the end of 2024, and its operating loss narrowed by 28% in 2025, according to the trade press. Le Journal des Entreprises now describes a company of about 220 employees.
The road has been long, though, and it is not over. Twenty-four years to bring a screening software to market: a visionary’s patience or a costly slowness? The company is still loss-making, even if its losses have narrowed, and its historical business still funds most of its ambitions. Clearance is not commercial success: in the US market, eyonis LCS will have to win over hospitals courted by many competitors.
For Sophia Antipolis, Median is one of the technology park’s companies taking a medical artificial intelligence software through to US approval. For its founder, it marks the end of a long development phase and the start of commercialisation.
