Low-profile but specialised, Promega makes radiation protection clothing and accessories in the Toulon Est industrial zone in La Farlède, such as the lead aprons worn by hospital radiology teams. It has no connection with Promega Corporation, the US biotechnology group.

The company was converted into a société par actions simplifiée on 30 April, according to a legal notice. The conversion does not create a new legal entity. At the same time, Philippe Zizard was appointed chairman and Tiffany Zizard managing director.

Garment-making remains a manual skill: the company has sought to recruit seamstresses in the Toulon area to produce its radiation protection clothing.

This niche market depends on demand from hospitals, clinics and imaging practices, which are subject to strict obligations to protect staff exposed to X-rays.
