A chocolate brand that generations of children had never forgotten, and a young Marseille company to relaunch it. Krokola posted revenue of €8.3m in 2025, with 16 employees, and is targeting more than €10m this year, Le Journal des Entreprises reported. Bars account for 74% of sales, biscuits for 14% and chocolate spread for 11%.

The story began in 2020, when Amélie Coulombe and Alexandre Kanar set up Krokola in Marseille, an organic chocolate brand for children, which actually began trading in March 2021. That same year, the two co-founders won the tender to take over Merveilles du Monde, the brand of chocolate bars with collectable picture cards that Nestlé had stopped producing.

The bars returned to the shelves in February 2023, first at La Grande Épicerie de Paris and then in supermarkets from March, at an announced price of €2.49 a bar. The original recipe was retained, using Fairtrade cocoa certified by Max Havelaar. A chocolate spread followed in 2024, then biscuits. In two years the company sold 5 million bars, and its revenue reached €6.5m in 2024.

To support its growth, the company is broadening the range further with new bars, an afternoon snack bar and seasonal products. Merveilles du Monde has also opened its capital for the first time, raising €1.5m, part of it from individual investors via the Sowefund platform.

Co-founder Alexandre Kanar is its chief executive. The company is a member of the 1% for the Planet network.
